All you have to do is put one or more #hashtags into a note's text, and it gets indexed by those tags. For example, the tagging-based organization system is genius. It has a few features that each do specific things really well, and in combination, are more than the sum of their parts. What I love about Bear is its minimalism and simplicity. The default isn't Markdown, but you can change that with a quick toggle in the settings. I'm a Bear Notes user, but while migrating from Apple Notes to Evernote to Bear Notes, I tried a lot of different note-taking apps.īear Notes is a Mac and iOS app that stores its notes in plain-text format and syncs them with Apple's iCloud. This is a good thing, because programs like Evernote, which are based on rich-text document formats, tend to accumulate hard-to-fix formatting problems in my experience. Note-Taking and WritingĪ crop of lightweight Markdown-based note-taking apps has sprung up in the last few years. I use a Mac, so I have a bias for editors that work on the Mac, but some of them work on other platforms too. So many editing programs now support Markdown that it's not simply a matter of choosing the best editor, but the one that's best for the task, and/or the one you prefer. It is also intended as a tool for restaurants, retailers and distributors to find local cheesemakers.Continuing the recent theme of lightweight markup languages, I thought I'd write about a few Markdown editors I've used or tried. The purpose of the map is to encourage locals and tourists to seek out member cheesemakers to buy handmade, traditionally crafted cheeses direct from the producer. The primary tool of the organization is the WNC Cheese Trail map that was designed and printed in 2013. The WNC Cheese Trail was formed in 2012 by a small group of independent artisan cheesemakers with the intent of promoting the production and sale of WNC artisan cheeses, facilitating consumer education and encouraging tourism to the region to benefit local cheesemakers. Please note that pets are not permitted at the Fest. Adult tickets (ages 12+) are $12.00 with children under 12 free. Tickets for the second annual Carolina Mountain Cheese Fest are currently on sale through the Festival website. These include a goat milking demonstration, a history of cheese display, a mozzarella stretch event, ricotta making demonstration, goat milk soap making demonstration and cheese board creation. Throughout the Fest various hands on demonstrations and events will take place. Workshops are also free with a general admission ticket, but pre-registration at the Fest website is required. Workshops taking place during the Fest include sessions around raising healthy goats, home cheese making, charcuterie 101 and ethical eating. The competition is free for attendees purchasing a general admission ticket, but participants will need to pre-register at the Fest website. Participants will compete in various cheese monger themed challenges, including wrapping, pairing, slicing and dicing cheese. Winners will be announced at 3:15 PM the day of the Fest.Īdditional events planned for the Fest include the BeMyMonger competition. A limited number of tasting tickets will be sold and must be purchased in addition to a general admission ticket. Tasting Tickets are $5 each and can be purchased at the Fest website. Judge’s Pick will be decided by a panel of judges including food historian and author Rick McDaniel, Mountain Xpress food editor Gina Smith and Asheville restaurateur Eric Scheffer. Attendees are able to purchase a Tasting Ticket to be able to taste each chef’s mac and cheese dish and submit their vote. Invited chefs from Asheville area restaurants will compete for the title of MacDown champion during Carolina Mountain Cheese Fest on April 24th from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Highland Brewing.Ĭhefs Chris Hall of Corner Kitchen Catering, Eden Roorda of Native Social Pub, Greg Campbell of The Barleycorn, Chris Sizemore of The Local Joint and Joe Marple of The Southern will compete.
